COLLEGE DANCE

The prefects of John McGlashan College were responsible for the success of the college dance, held on Friday last. The hall was gay with coloured streamers, lanterns and varied lightins effects while a cheerful lop fire added a touch of comfort. The programme Included a judicious selection of oldtime dances, varied with the modern favourites so popular with voung folk. Among the official guests were:—Professor and Mrs S. F. Hunter. Mrs R. G. C. McNab and Dr A. H. West. Mr and Mrs G. C. Johnson. Mr and Mrs F. Whimp, Mr and Mrs O. Cox. Mrs L. Stevens. Misses L. Gillies. M. Wallace. M. Morrow. M. Farquharson. and Messrs W. K. Simmers and G. McLeod Amone the voung neople present were: Misses B. Boyd V. Miller. J. McGill. B. Johnstone. L. Grav D. Hewitt. M Grp.v. B. Stewart. E. McKnight B McKnight. E. Galwav. C Flood. P Blair. B Young. A. Paul. W. Greenslade. F. Chartres. P. McDougal. M Hill E. Nash. G. Chance. D Smith. M. Ferens B. Reid B. Mitchell. E. Thompson. I. Hore, S. Johnstone, A. Armour. B. Cameron. J. MacDonald. P. King. M. Wardell. R. Clapperton. G. McCallum. and P Yardley. The monthly meeting of the Kyeburn Institute was presided over by Mrs Helm. The motto was, "Be yourself." and the roll call, "Three eggs for hospital." Members decided to contribute goods to the Services Club in Dunedin. A parcel of mittens and scarves was sent in to the central depot at Ranfurly. Mrs Strode was noriiinated to act as delegate to the MidOtago Federation meeting at Naseby. Mrs Horn completed her demonstration on the making of cane stools. The competitions resulted:—Date scones—Mesdames W. M. Pearson. Helm, and Strode (equal) 1: pikelets —Mesdames Thomson and Helm (equal) 1; bloom—Mesdames Thomson and A W. Pearson (equal) 1. The hostesses were Mesdames Carey. Clunie. and Horn.
