MIDDLEMARCH
Patriotic Committee The Middlemarch Patriotic Committee commenced a series of entertainments in support of the Air Force Queen, Miss Mary Pratt, in tire A. and P. Hall on Friday evening. The evening was spent by card playing and dancing. The chairman, Mr L M. Howell, explained the plans the committee had made with the object of raising funds, and expressed the hope that the whole community would take the matter up wholeheartedly. He mentioned that Miss Pratt wes to visit Middlemarch on October 15. Mrs Andrew Carruthers presented the Taieri County maid of honour Miss Joyce Howell. Prizes of cards were won by Mrs T. Stevens and Mr J. McMaster. Mr F. Beattie acted as M.C., and Peat's Orchestra supplied the music The takings for the evening were £lO The Weather
After a spell ot very dry weather a welcome rain set in early on Saturday morning. and a light drizzle continued throughout the day. Thirty points were recorded. There was a heavy fall of snow on the Rock and Pillar, extending down to the snow line.
