QUEENSTOWN The Weather The fine spell of spring weather has broken, and steady rain fell on Saturday night and Sunday morning. There was a good fall of snow on the mountains. Personal Miss Mona Battin left for Invercargill on Friday. Mrs Alexandei Reid (Glenorchy) is spending a holiday in Dunedin. Mrs T. Gray and family (Edendale) spent the term holidays with Mr and Mrs Alexander Reid, "Arcadia.” Miss J. Forbes (Glenorchy) has gone to Dunedin for a short holiday. Mr and Mrs J. W Miller have returned to Queenstown. Miss Ann McEntyre, who spent a holiday in Southland and Dunedin returned home yesterday. Mrs E. McLean has returned to Queenstown after spending a holiday with her daughter, Mrs J W. Rooney (Balclutha). Miss Hamilton and Mrs Barker, ot Wanaka, went to Dunedin on Thursday and are due to return early in the week. Accompanying them are Mrs J. Day and her small son and Mr A. Slmson. Miss Kathleen McKay, of "Archerfield,'’ Dunedin, is spending a short holiday with her parents, Mr and Mrs C. H. McKay. LAWRENCE Badminton The annual match between the Beaumont and Lawrence Badminton Clubs was played on Friday evening and resulted in a win for Lawrence by 14 games, 240 points, to 9 games, 208 points. CROMWELL The Weather The long spell ot dry weather was broken over the week-end Rain fell early on Sunday morning. There were some fairly heavy showers. The change also brought a snowfall on the high country. The rainfall was urgently needed, as the district had been experiencing an unusually dry spring. Lowburn Patriotic Committee At a recent meeting of the Lowburn Patriotic Committee the financial statement which was presented showed that the committee’s Paddy’s Market had realised a profit of £159 3s 3d. Lawn Tennis Club At the annual meeting of the Cromwell Lawn Tennis Club the president. Mr J. P. Gordon, was in the chair. The election of officers resulted as follows: President. Mr J. P. Gordon: vice-presi-dents, Mrs Wilkinson and Mr Walkinshaw; secretary, Mr J. Stephens; committee—Misses Varcoe. Stumbles, Gordon, and Campbell. Cromwell Patriotic Committee At the last fortnightly meeting of the Cromwell Patriotic Committee the Mayor, Mr James C. Parcell, reported that the Air Queen’s Committee had advised him that Miss Mary Pratt would be in Cromwell on September 24. It was decided to hold a concert that evening. It was also decided to hold a field day in the near future on the Cromwell Racecourse. CLYDE Rain at Last During the early hours of Sunday morning light rain commenced to fall in Clyde and continued throughout the day. Snow is low down on tire surrounding hills, and night frosts ranging to seven degrees have been experienced in the district. Rain was urgently required. Air Force Queen Efforts to make the forthcoming ball in aid of funds for the Queen Carnival a success are already in evidence. To defray all expenses, card evenings and other entertainments are being organised privately. One function held on Saturday evening at the residence of Mr and Mrs J, D. Ross drew a large attendance.
