Dairy Factory Meeting There was a good attendance of dairy factory suppliers at a meeting held to consider the question of the cartage of milk for the season. Mr D Keir (chairman of directors) presided. Only one tender was received, and attei a little discussion, the tender of Messrs Wylie’s Garage Ltd., on a mileage basis, was accepted The chairman stated that as the tender provided for only one trip a dav. it would be necessary for suppliers to have a double supply of cans and asked those who needed extra cans to hand in to the secretary the number they required, and the factory management would make arrangements to have them supplied. In answer to a shareholder the chairman stated that the factory would open for the season as soon as the chimney was ready—approximately on the first of the month. Queen Carnival There was an attendance ot some 15 citizens at a meeting held in the committee room of the Town Hall, over which the Mayor (Mr W. B. Naylor) presided, for the purpose of forming a committee to raise funds for the Air Force Queen. Mr E. (1. Murney, chairman of the West. Otago Patriotic Committee, said it was the desire of his society that queen carnival committees should be formed in Tapanul, Kelso, and Henot to collect funds. The onlv information lie had at present was that Miss Marv Pratt (Air Force Queen), with her retinue, would visit Tapanui on either October 9 or 10 Accompanying her would be a few entertainers. It would be necessary for the local committee to arrange some function on the night of Miss Pratt’s visit and also to arrange functions during the next two months to raise funds for the Air Force Queen. Mr Naylor said that the funds being collected by the Queen Carnival Committee were to be devoted entirely for the rehabilitation of the soldiers He ex-

plained that it was necessary that expenses should be kept as low as possible, Seven hundred tickets In the house raffle had been allotted to Tapanui, and queen carnival badges would also be available for sale. The Dunedin Committee was very anxious that every effort should be made to raise funds fo- this worthy object. It was decided that a queen carnival committee be formed In Tapanui with the following officers: Chairman, Mr W B. Naylor; secretary, Mr H. J. Hay: committee—Mesdames W. B. Naylor, E. Arnold, T. Mockford, McPherson, Miss M. Greaves. Messrs J. L. Wylie, R. Duff, J, Hand, J. G Wilson, E. Arnold, H. W. Wolenstenholme. J. C. Cameron. D. McNeil and John Edgar

Several suggestions were considered as to the form of the function to be arranged on the night of Miss Pratt’s visit. Ultimately it was decided to communicate with Mr W. D. Shelton, of Gore, to see If he would be available to lead a community sing on that night In the event of Mr Shelton not being available, the arranging for a song leader was left in the hands of the chairman and secretary. It was decided to hold a gala performance in the afternoon and a carnival in the evening on Saturday, November 2, the following committees to make all necessary arrangements:—Gala—Mesdames Arnold and McPherson, Miss M. McDonald. Messrs Wylie, Arnold and Hand; Carnival —Mesdames Naylor and Mockford, Miss Greaves. Messrs Wolenstenholme. Duff and Wilson

The sale of queen carnival badges was left In the hands of the ladies of the committee to arrange. School Shorts Association The annual meeting of the West Otago Primary School Sports Association was held In the school. The president (Mr D. McNeil) presided over a small attendance. The secretary read the annual report and balance sheet, the latter showing a credit balance of £5 4s 6d. On the motion of the president and Mr W. B Somerville, they were unanimously adopted. The election of officers for the year resulted as follows:—Patron, Mr J. D Edgar; president, Mr D McNeil; vicepresidents, Messrs W, B. Somerville and A. R Whyte; secretary, Mr E. D. Farrant; General Committee—Messrs N Mathieson, A. Shirley. F. Lischner, E. Arnold K Rodger, C. Murray and A N. Watson, and teacher representatives; Management Committee—Messrs J. D, Edgar. E. Arnold, C. Murray and F. Lischner. and the rector of the Tapanui School. In recognition of his work and the great Interest taken by him in the association since its Inception, Mr George Howat was elected a life member. It was decided to hold the sports meeting in October on the Tapanui Recreation Grounds, and several alterations In the rules were made. It was agreed that Individual prizes and trophies other than challenge cups be abolished. Mr N. M Mathieson was appointed a trustee In place of Mr C W Kibblewhite, who has left the district. The following officials were appointed for the sports meeting:—Supervisor, Mr D. McNeil: marshal, Mr W. B. Somerville; starters, Messrs C. Murray and R Mcßitchie; judges—Messrs A. R. Whyte, E. Arnold, S. Sim and D S. McKenzie: judges of jumps—Messrs F Hancox, J. H White. A. Sim, D. Rodger and J. McFeeters: timekeepers—Messrs F. Lischner, A N. Watson and K. Rodger: results board, the secretary and Mr H. J. Hay.
