DAMAGED BY FIRE
OUTBREAK IN PRIVATE HOTEL EIGHTEEN ROOMS SUFFER (Pee United Press. Association) WELLINGTON, Sept. 15. The Berkeley Private Hotel at Oriental Bay was damaged by fire this morning. About 12 rooms were completely gutted and six others were more or less severely damaged. The cause is thought to have been a match or a cigarette thrown into a waste paper basket in the corridor. A number of guests lost everything but the clothes .they were wearing. The rooms with their doors closed suffered little damage, while those with open doors alongside were swept.
