Ministerial. The Hon. G. J. Anderson stated at the annual meeting of the Wellington Chamber of Commerce last night (states a P.A. message) that the Hon. W. Downio Stewart, who had been under treatment in New York, had greatly benefited in health. He is expected to roach Now Zea land early in June. Mr XV. Paget Gale left yesterday for Christchurch to adjudicate at the annual competitions’ festival commencing at the northern city to-day. A Madrid cablegram reports the death of the comedian Alfred Lester from pneumonia while on a health tour. Mr 11. P. Harrison, representative of Paramount Pictures, is at present in Dunedin. Mr F. E. Beamish, who has been promoted from the Dunedin Post Office to accountant of the Auckland office, was a passenger of the second express yesterday for the north. Mr Hector Fallow, who has been auctioneer for Messrs J. E. Watson and Co. at Invercargill for many years, has bought a business at To Kuitl. He will leave for the north to-morrow morning. Archbishop Redwood and Archbishop O'Shea (Wellington), Bishop Clourj (Auckland), and Bishop Brodie (Christchurch), who had been attending the jubilee cole imitions in connection with the Holy Cross College, Mosgiel, left Dunedin by the second express yesterday for the north. Out of .13 applications Mr Jas. Watson, assistant master of the Wanganui Technical College, was last night appointed director of the Westport Technical High School (says a Press Association telegram). The final choice lay between Mr Watson and Mr Marlin (director of the Masterton Technical College), both of whom attended the meeting at Westport by invitation of the board. Advice has been received locally that Major-general the Earl of .Scarbrough, Sub-Prior, acting on behalf of the High Royal Highness the Grand Prior (the Duke of Connaught), has approved the issue of the service medal of the Order or St. John to Mrs G. M. Davis, Lady Superintendent of the Hampden Nursing Division; Miss H .M'Knight, first lady ambulance officer of tin; Caversham Nursing Division; and‘Mr J. Brownlie, first ambulance officer of (lie Oamaru Ambulance Division, members of the St. John Ambulance Brigade Overseas. A Press Association message from Auckland stales that at the dominion conference of the Church of England Men’s Society, the following officers were elected President (ex officio). Archbishop Averill; vice-president. Archdeacon J. D Russell (Oamaru); treasurer, Mr J. W. Henderson (Wellington); auditor, Mr R M. Sunley (Wellington) ; council-—the Rev. C. A. B. Watson and Mr W. M. Raynor (Auckland), Messrs J. Snell, W. J. Lees, W. Nash, and H. S. Condory (Wellington), the Rev. W. Bullock (Masterton), and Mr A. E. H. Harrison (Christchurch).
