SUICIDE BY POISONING.

(Peb United P.ress Association.) AUCKLAND, May 7. At. the inquest at .Auckland on Ernest Marshall Smith, a sailor who was discharged from the navy during the past 12 months, and who was found dead in his bedroom in a boarding-house, the coroner returned a verdict of suicide by poison. Deceased was short of money, and worried because he could not. pay his board. BOY’S SUDDEN DEATH. A boy named Eric MacCallum Reed, aged four years, who rosined with ins parents at 9 Tyne street, Hoslyn, died suddenly about 4 a.m. yesterday. An inquest was hold at the house yesterday afternoon before Mr J. R. Bartholomew, S.M. Lilian J. Reed, the mother of the child, gave evidence of identification. Witness stated that the boy had been ailing for several days, but she did not think it was necessary to call in a doctor. Dr Fulton said that ho had been called in about 4 a.m. yesterday, and on arrival at tho house ho found the boy dead in his hod. He attempted artificial inspiration for some time, hut without success. Tho Coroner adjourned the inquest sine die in order to permit a post-mortem examination to bo made. A lad named Allan Smith, aged eight years, who resides with his parents at 28 Howard street, was admitted to tho Dunedin Hospital yesterday afternoon suffering from a compound fracture of tho left arm. Tho boy fell while playing at school.
