BERWICK PEACE CELEBRATIONS.

<»- . Monday, July 21, was a gala day in Berwick. Fortunately, tho weather was glorious, and everyone appeared eager to make the day as enjoyable as possible. The enthusiasm with which the residents and young people in particular, fell in with the arrangements is worthy of tho highest praise The feature of tho dav was the procession, which w,-s very creditable for such a small plaeu, The humorous element was much in evidence, tho nonsense being relished by younrr and old. After tho procession a 'halt was made in tho township where the National .Anthem was sung' There followed a short interval, in which a silent tribute was paid to tho fallen. Next came tho midday meal, and an adjournment was then made to the school ground where tho children were well catered for. Tho Rev. R. M'Cully made an appropriate speech, after which each local child was presented with a cup and saucer, as a suitable peace souvenir. Another item was the planting of four trees—two by the oldest, residents (Mrs Walter and Mr Mtinro) arid two by tho youngest school pupils (Marjory George and Willie Robinson) Races and games were indulged in for a while, and everyone wont home well pleased with tho day's onting. In tho evening there was a fireworks disnl.iy. followed by a dance. Following; are the prizetikcrs for decorated vehicles, etc.:—Best decorated motor car. Mr W. MTSay; best decorated vehicle. Mr Rattray: decorated bicycle, Mrs D. M'Pherson; best fancy costumo, M. Kirby and S. Potrie. Special prizes: Decorated go-cart, Joyce Wither; decorated sledge, Mr Tom Heenan.
