ASIATIC CHOLERA.

( To the Editor of me Otago Daily Times.) Sir—l have noticed one or more letters in your daily issue respecting the death of a friend of mine— the late Mr Richard Erlam—(of Asiatic cholera), purpoting to be a correspondence between that gentleman's medical attendant, Dr Hocken, and the Provincial surgeon, Dr Hulme, and on Avhich I beg to make a few remarks. From my experience iv. the colonies or otherAvi.se south ofthe line, unfortunately I haA-e had to treat several indisputable cases of a similar nature to the one quoted, in a much more densely populated locality, and wifch not half the water advantages that Dunedin possess at the present time. These cases were all in plain English, individual cases, occurring in a family, invariably fatal, but never attacking a second member of the said family, and as likely to make its appearance the next time two miles from the locality as nofc. I must, therefore, cordially endorse Dr Hocken's opinion, and, moreover, to assure the public thafc it might be one year, ten years, or more, that they will see a similar case. But the same time with their natural advan tages, by all meai\i let them advance a plentiful supply of water and drainage. I beg to remain, &c., Shadfobth Anderson, Surgeon.
