Dailt TxjfES OfHce, Saturday Evening. No export entries were passed for gold at the Cus-tom-house to-day. Customs Revenue collected at the Port of Dunedin, Friday, August Bth, amounted to L 447 19s 2d. The following are the principal items : Whisky, 120 gals., 156 6s. 9d. ; brandy, 228 pals., LlO3 3s ; geneva, 189 gals., L85.15s 9d;. wine, 88 gals., LI3 4s; tobacco, 6601b5. L 49 17s Gd ; coffee, lOOSlbs., Ll2 12s: tea, 2521b5., L 4 45.. Unsettled weather still continues, and checks arsy inclination for a more active movement in our market. Notwithstanding this, there is a rather more cheerful feeling apparent. The E,scort received this week Is more then could have been looked for, and very encouraging to those dependent on the trade with the mines. With the approaching Spring weather, and a gradual increase of the number of miners employed, we may soon expect to see the Escort returns creeping up. Arrivals of merchandise during the week have been light, and in value we have no change to report since our last quotations. Trade is quiet; what little is selling is for actual wants, and we cannot note any speculation at all. It is now three weeks since we have had any mail in from the North, and much inconvenience is felt on this account. It is to be hoped that we shall have some steamer hence to Melbourne about the 16th or 17th, to carry the outward English mail, but at present it seems probable that, excepting the early portion_pf the mail sent by the City of Hobart, we shall miss the opportunity of further advices by this month's mail.
