EULES AND REGULATIONS OF THE OTAGO GOLD FIELDS

Whereas, by warrantjuiuler the hand of Thomas Gohe Browse, Governor nnd Commander-in-Chief in and over Her Majesty's Colony of New Zealand, dated at Auckland the Eighth day of June, in the year of our Lord One thousand eight hundred and sixty-one, and issued under the seal of the said Colony by and with the advice ami consent of the Executive Council thereof, and in exercise of the power and authority for that purpose in him vested, j Did thereby delegate absolutely and without restriction unto me, John Larkiits Cheese Richardson, a.s Superintendent of the Province ot Otago, all the powers vested in him under or by virtue of the | "Gold-fields' Act, 1858, except the powers contained in sections seven, eight, fifteen, twenty-seven, and forty of the said Act, to have, hold, and exercise the ' powers within the Province of Otago thereby given. I. Prklimixauv Regulations. I.— lnterpretation Clause. 11. Regulations updating to Ci<aim3. I.— Classification of Claims. I Claims shall be classified thus :— ; 1. Ordinary Cliimn, i.e. alluvial claims worked ! without the aid ot'sluices or machines. j 2. Sluice and Machine Claim*, i.e., alluvial j claims worked with tJiu aid of sluices or i puddling machines. 3. Wet Claims, i.e., alluvial claims in flooded | ground which can .lot be wrought without! the aid of appliances for drainage. j 4. Creek or River Claims, i.e., alluvial claims I in the beds of creeks or rivers. ) 5. Quartz Claims. 2.— Sue of Claims. 1. Ordinary Claims shall not exceed 30 feet by 30 j feet for each person, unless the depth of sinking ex- ! eeeds :">0 feet, in which case such claim may be extended to 35 feet by feet. " j 2.
