THE RAILWAY EMPLOYEES AND THEIR WAGES.
(by telegraph. ) Christchurch, September 7. The Railway Employes Committee held another meeting last night, when certain proposals were agreed to, and will be forwarded for the consideration of the Commissioner of Railways. They are of a very moderate character. Whatever the Otago men may do, a strike here now seems improbable. The in a report of the meeting,. remarks :—" The Committee recognise that the O.tago men, when offered " a sop iq the pan," thrust aside the previous understanding as to co-operation, and that now that the shoe is pinching the l>unedin foot most severely, the Canterbury men have no occasion to disturb themselves about what has, in effect, become a local grievance."
