(PER press association.) DUXEDIN. July 30, By a fire at Bendigo which burned down Cameron's billiard room, the National Insurance Company lose L3OO. Mrs. Elizabeth Martin was received into the Hospital, suffering from a gun-shot wound; Her son, 10 years of age, was playing with a loaded gun. It accidentally discharged its contents into the lower portion of Mrs. Martin's back. It is rumored that an explosion has occurred at Mnllocky Qully, by which one man was killed, and another seriously wounded. Arrived—lnvercargill, from London ; Bygdoe, barque, from New York. CERISTCHURCH. July 29. Since their constitution the Acclimatisation Society has spent L 12,000 and liberated BQ,OQO trout. So far as can at present be ascertained, the net proceeds of the Ohristchurch Industrial Exhibition will amount to LSOO. Gratuities of L 3 each were voted torday by the Exhibition Committee to the Police Library Fund, and the Fire Brigade Library Fund, in recognition of the services rendered. It was resolved that the surplus funds accruing be handed to the Committee of the Association for Fostering and Protecting Local Industries and Productions, with a recommendation that a sum of not less than L3OO be invested for promoting similar exhibitions in future, unless the Association shall, at a general meeting convened for the discussion of this particular resolution, otherwise direct.
To-day, the unemployed at the Waimakariri Works, Malvern, knocked off work, dissatisfied with their wages. An attempt will be made to induce them to resume to-morrow. The Loch Doon has arrived from London. The captain reports a terrific gale from west and south-west for 12 hours, with a fearfully mountainous sea, which, by the force of the gale, was driven in a complete mass of spindrift, so that he could not see a mile from the ship, the sea at the time almost burying her while scudding before it. The captain has been over 30 years at sea, but this gale exceeded any lie had ever seen. So suddenly did the storm overtake the ship that there was not time to tal?e in sail, and there was no resource but to let the vessel scud at a furious rate before the wind, under canvas. July 30. At a meeting of the unemployed this morning a letter ,vas read from the men on strike at tho Waimakiriri railway wores, stating that tho promises made by tho Government had not been fulfilled, oithor as regards wages or rations. It was resolved to telegraph to tho city members of tho Assembly, and to potition tho Governor suggesting that a commission of enquiry should lie appointed. Tho tramways are to bo oxlondod to Forry Moad, four miles from. Ohristohuroli.

At the Acclimatisation Society's meeting yesterday it was reported that 60,000 ov;t were r.ow being hatched out. An application from Blenheim for ova was granted. It was resolved in distributing young trout this season to send a number to the West Coast. Messrs. C. Frith, W. Frith, and D. Ashby, prominent cricketers, and the best bowlers here, purpose leaving Canterbury, shortly. . .
