(fkom ottr own correspondent. ) PALMERSTON. July 26. The 7.10 train from Oamaru was one hour late in arriving here this morning, the cause being that the tender of the engine got off the line in the vicinity of the Shag Point junction, and was not noticed until crossing what is known as Rowley's Bridge, a rather dangerous place for such a mishap. The Court is now sitting, and the case against J. Marshall, late constable of Macraes Flat, for uttering a forged certificate of consent to marriage is being heard before Judge Harvey and a jurv. Later.
The case against J. Marshall/has just been finished. After the evidence of Mr. Cockerill and his wife, the parents of Mrs. Marshall, and the Registrar had been taken, the Judge ruled that there, was no evidence at all to convict, and instructed the jury to , bring in a verdict of not guilty, which was accordingly done. Mr. Catomore prosecuted for the Crown, and Mr. Frasgr defended.
