CHARGE OF MANSLAUGHTER AGAINST A DOCTOR.

An inquest was commenced at Wintoa yesterday and terminated to-day, touching the death of a woman named Cameron, wife of a laborer at Winton. The evidence shows that on Monday last deceased was taken in labor, and that on the evening of that day Dr. Moffat was called in to attend upon her. He remained with her until Tuesday morning about two o'clock,, by which time the woman had reached an exceedingly critical stage. The doetoir endeavored to deliver her both by instruments and by hands and failed. At the hour namod he threw up the case, saying; he ©ust have some rest. He carried out, this resolve, and never went near the house again until after the child had been successfully delivered by Dr. Hannan of Invercargill, A post-morlem on the body of the unfortunate woman revealed the fapfe that tb.9 uterus was ruptured, and I that death had primarily resulted fraini i this rupture. When the rupture occurred : the medical witnesses could not say. The* 1 jury, after hearing a lot of evidence, returned a verdict of manslaughter againstDr. Moffatt, on the ground that Mrs.. Cameron's death had resulted from his; gross criminal neglect and unskilful))ess.
