Mr. T. W. Hislop's resignation has been gazetted. Early this morning, while a man named James Leahy was looking for frost fish, he .came upon the body of a man lying tipon the beach between Kibble and Eden streets. He once gave information to the police, and the body was removed to the Commercial Hotel, where it was recognised as that of 3lichael O'Ksefe. There were no marks of 'violence on the body, and deceased was seen last evening by the police, when -he appeared to be perfectly sane. An inquest was [heW at the Commercial Hotel this afternoon, Kgftw T. A. Clowes, Esq., Acting-Coroner, when verdict of " Found drowned" was returned.
About forty persons assembled at the Imperial Hotel last night to make arrangements &o secure Jlr. Jones' return. A working committee .was appointed, and the dates of meetings arranged. A meeting of the Committee of the Korth Otago Agricultural and Pastoral Society waa held in Mr. Church's office to-day, when -there was a very good attendance. Mr. •Church was re-elected Secretary at the same as last year, and a number of SubcCommitteea were appointed. The Resident Magistrate was occupied xnearly the whole of to-day in the hearing of -the charges against William Eayner and 'Thomas Carline for the alleged stealing of a number of lemonade bottles, the property ■of' Daniel M'Carthy. The cases were proceedißg when we went to press.

The only items •on the programme deserving of particular notice were the violin solo, "Annie Laurie," "with variations, by Mr. Simonsen, for which 'Be received an encore, ami responded with 'his wondertul imitations of the Scotch and Irish bagpipes; the song, " Dear Little .Jessie" (encored), l-y Mi.-a Aiii.iv.orth ; the waltz eonjr, by the same lady; and 'Elliott's skipping-rope performance, which •waa deservedly applauded. The " cornerrisen" kept the audience fairly amused with their drolleries. The company appear again "this evening. Sir George Grey was a passenger to Dun•edin, en route for Invercargill hy yesterday -afternoon's train fr- m the north. It is bis intention to deliver an address in Oamaru •when on his return journey to the north. lit'- Seymour George, (Sir George Grey' 3 aiephew, and member for Rodney) also arrived in Oamaru last night, and proceeded 4o Wellington to-day. The St. Paul's Young Men's Association wiD meet this evenings The evening will be £evoted to impromptu speaking. *
