The cricket match between the Australians and eleven players of Derbyshire was resumed to-day, when the latter in their second innings made 125. The Lord Advocate of Scotland appointed under the Gladstone Ministry ha 3 failed to obtain re-election to Parliament. Several war vessels have been ordered to the Pacific, and have received instructions to cruise off China, owing to the Kuldja difficulty being still unadjusted, and Russia having resolved upon strict execution of the treaty. Id i*"- announced from Washington that Mr. Haves, the President of the United States, has invited Congress to consider the course of action the Government should pursue in regard to the outrage which took place sometime since on an American fisherman at Fortune Bay, New Foundland, especially in view of the refusal of the Marquis of Salisbury, as Foreign Secretary, in the last administration, toaccedethe demand of the American Secretary of State for compensation from England for the loss of boats and nets belonging to the fishermen. The matter in dispute between and America is seriously occupying public attention in both countries.

The Argus, in discussing the present state of political affairs, admits that Mr. Service must experience difficulty in carrying on the Government in the present Assembly, owing to defections from his party. Brisbane, May 20. At the Supreme Court, on a verdict being given against Swanwick, barrister, and member of the Assembly, which is tantamount to an implication of professional malpractices, Griffith, the plaintiff s council, complained of the menacing attitude of Swanwick'a brother towards the plaintiff. The judge ordered the arrest of the brother, who was found carrying a revolver and sheath knife. He was sentenced to imprisonment during the pleasure of the Court. The judge, in passing sentenca, regretted that he was unable to make it imprisonment for twenty years.
