OAMARU FIRE BRIGADE.
The monuily. meeting of tho Fire Brigade was held last evening, at'tho enginoshed; There was a gjood muster, and Captain Sinclair occupiedthe chair. . Soirie general business having been transacted, j r iAljitenant Baker moved—"That the ■SecrlferyVjrate to the ; District Commanding Officer of ihe Volunteers, requesting that the-Yolunteers should turn out in case of a fire, to act as fire police." -■ This was seconded by Mr. Hamilton, and carried. It was reported that a canvas tank, intended for holding water to supply the engine-pump, and measuring sft. by 3ft., and,2ft. r .6in. ; in depth, JiacL been made since the last meeting, at a cost of'3sa, and that aSi iron frame (Would be made by .Messrs. Reid and Gray, at a cost of 15s. It was mentioned that to supply this with water it would be- necessary to havo a number of casks, to be filled and carried by expresses, arid, some discussion took place as to the best mode of working the plan. It was ultimately resolved, on the motion of Mr. Hamilton, seconded by Mr. Mainland, " That a Committee be formed of tho officers, with power to add to their number, to call at, the Insurance Offices and ask them to defray the cost of the purchase of casks, and the,expenses of filling them in tho most expeditious manner, a •report to be made at the next meeting." Some discussion then took place with reference to cleaning the engine and, gear after "a fire, and it was resolved, on the motion of Captain Sinclair, seconded by Mr. Rowland, to writo to the Municipal Council asking that a dayman might be appointed to clean the engine and gear after a fire or practice. "■ ' Several accounts were passed for payment, and after a little discussion with reference to the necessity for , obtaining a uniform, the meeting terminated.
