ORIGINAL CORRESPONDENCE.
(TO THE - EDITOR OF THE. OAMAItU MAIL ) ' Sib,—lf cheap advertising is oiititlid some recognition, then, sir, you certainly stand first on the list as a. friend to insurance agents, and should receive a commission on all premiums obtained through your instrumentality. I observe iiy your issue of yesterday's date a notice referring to the harrow escape Mr. Gabites' building had of being destroyed, had it not been for the careful watch kept, 1 &c. Large pieces of burning timber found their way into the top storey, of course through the door ways, left; open for that purpose, and Mr. Gabites'xlaim has be,en recognised by the insurance companies, and "that the North British' and Mercantile, with; praiseworthy promptitude, paid their, proportion of tho claim, which amounts to the magnificent sum of five pounds. What an effort ! Lucky company ! "Your notice -of their liberality is worth all the calendars, footirules, &c. , which have so plentifully been distributed .of late.. Still there is something wanted. Another effort must be , made, it being within the recollection of' everyone jthat another--company represented in this' town actually paid their, probable loss even while the building vtaa iin flames.. How I wish I were an insurance agent. Would not I advertise, that's all. I should put them all in tho shade. I would advertise as follows " .Any person or persons insured in my office, who have any presentiment that their building is likely to be burnt from .whatever causp,' will on application receive the full amount "of their insurance." See what a happy position I should be in. Theirisk would be written off my books, and I should rest in peace, even supposing .the .building I, had paid for were burht..' Mind,.'l do not want other companies to make use of'my ideaS, but I never could keep a good thing to myself.-—I am, &c., A Would-be Insurance Agent.
