Parliament lias been opened, by the Governor, who, in his speech on the occasion, said he hoped the session would be short. He urged the extension of public works, and an increase of taxation, if necessary. Sydney, September 9. There was a heavy gale to-day on the coast. The schooners Bertha and Franz were wrecked. There have been heavy rains throughout the Colony. A great find of gold is reported near Wellington (N.Z.W.) The Wakatipu sails tor New Zealand to-morrow. Brisbane, Sept. 9. The Governor leaves on Friday for Sydney, to visit the Exhibition.
