THE NEW PARLIAMENT.
The elections of members of the new Parliament are now being proceeded with in earnest. In nearly every division of the Colony some at least of the nominations have taken place. In most instances the seats are being hotly contested by large fields of candidates, but some of the old members have succeeded in getting into Parliament without opposition. So far the following members have been returned, and, for the sake of enabling our readers to readily distinguish how the elections are going, wc have aflixed the letter M to the names of Ministerial supporters, while members of the Opposition are distinguished by the ominous letter O : OTAGO. Mataura Mr. J. S. Shanks (M) CANTERBURY. Avon Mr. W. Rolleston (0) ■ Selwyn ... ... Hon. J. Hall (0) WE3TLAND. Totara Hon. W. Gisborne (M)
