MESSRS. HISLOP AND SHRIMSKI AT TEANERAKI.

(from a correspondent.") Messrs. Hislop and Shrimski —the candidates in what I beg to term the genuine Liberal interest —addressed the el -ctors of Teaneraki last night. There wa.s a large attendance, Mr. W. Meek being voted to the chair. The candidates proceeded to address the meeting, briefly explaining their views with regard to the various measures which form the policy of the present Government, and in conclusion expressed themselves to the effect that their consistent adherence to that policy in the past was a reliable guarantee to the electors that they would, if re-elected, be found the unwavering supporters of that policy in the future, a sentiment which the meeting proceeded to endorse by an enthusiastic and almost unanimous vote of confidence —the only dissentient, as far as I could observe, being the Chairman of the local School Committee, whose dignity it appeared (and he is a very dignified personage) had been outraged by the neglect of Messrs. Hislop and Shrimski's committee to supplicate his lordship's permission for the use of the school j an oversight which, in these times, might surely be pardoned. However, when the time came for catechising the candidates, this gentleman proceeded to give them a " drubbing " for it, and also indulged in a sneer at the Liberal cause, with the view, no doubt, of making political capital out of the matter for the party to whom he is attached. The meeting, however, jby sundry signs of disapproval, intimated to him that he had better subside—which he did, after getting himself well "drubbed" in return. Eh passant, Mr. Steward, being an advanced Liberal, the obstructive gentleman and his co-thinkers —who appear to be plentiful enough, yet—will be disfranchised.
