The statement of the net expenditure of the Consolidated Fund for the financial year ended 30th June last, gives the following summary : —Liabilities of 1877-7S, L 114,106. L 142,655 ; Postal and Telegraphic, L 231,785; Customs, L 41,002; Marine Department, L 42,866; Education, L 221,454; Native, L 35,801; Military and Volunteer, L 27,555 ; Constabulary and Defence, L 138,612; railway, L 495,264; public domains 'and buildings, L 24,937 ; Crown lands survey and goldfieldsLlSG,299; miscellaneous, special, and temporary objects, L 54,414; provincial liabilities, L 158,393. Total, L 2,119,223. The amount voted was- L 2,364,648, so that there remains unexpended the sum of L 259,137. The summary of net expenditure on account of the Public Works fund, for the year ended 30th June last, shows a total of L 1,592,340, against a sum voted for L 2,910.921, leaving unexpended a balance of L 1,335,847.
