[:e,Y TELEGRAPH.] Dunedin, August 4. All sorts of political rumors are about. It is reported that Mr. De Lautour will oppose Mr. Green for Port Chalmers; Mr. H. Clark oppose Mr. W. A. Murray for Bruce ; Mr. John Smyth Fleming oppose Mr. Thomson for Clutlia ; Messrs. Carrick, Barron, and M'lndoe oppose Mr. Seaton for Cavershim ; Mr. Mason, formerly Mayor of Dunedin a,nd an M.H.R., has consented to stand for the Lakes District, CuRISTCHURCH, August 4. There are several rumors about the Hon. John Hall resigning his seat in the Council and standing for the Assembly. The electors oi Selwvn are going to hold a meeting to consider the advisability of asking him to represent tnem, and it is also stated that he is going to oppose the Hon. Mr. Fisher. Mr. Montgomery is going to stand for Akaroa, as a matter of course. The proposal mooted of bringing down Sir G. Grey to contest Christchurcii meets with favor, and he is looked upon as certain of going in easily. Wanganui, August 4. Mr. Sherman, chairman of the Harbor Board, will be warmly supported in the Patea County against Major Atkinson. Mr. Shervvoocl held open-air meeting a,t Qarlyle on Saturday, was largely attended. An unanimous motion supporting his candidature was carried. It is rumored here that Mr. Ballance will stand against Sir W. Fox for one of the Wanganui seats. Mr. Bryce's return for the other is considered certain. A warm contest is expected.
