LIVINGSTONE.
(FROM OCR OWN CORRESPONDENT.) The annual prize-distribution at this school took place on Friday, 20th inst. Mr. Botting (Chairman of Committee) was called upon to present the prizes. The children sang, with marked precision, several pieces, among which was a trio, with chorus, an action song, and several marches, and subsequently acquitted themselves very creditably in a round of test questions on the routine work of the past year. Mr. H. L. Gilbert, in a very appropriate and encouraging address to the children, explained to them the object of the Committee in giving so many prizes, and said nothing could be a greater source of pleasure to the teacher than to see them passing rapidly up through the various classes, and opening their minds to the different branches of knowledge he was ever waiting to impart. In- the course of his remarks, Mr Gilbert (who has had frequent opportunities of observing the conduct of the school) paid a high compliment to the teachers in connection therewith. The schoolroom was decorated with evergreens, with " The Compliments of the season," in ferns. The children all left delighted with the result of the day, each having received a present of some kind.
