WAIAREKA ROAD BOARD.
A special meeting of this Board was held yesterday, when there were present—Messrs. J. Reid (in the chair), Gilchrist, Isdale, T. Reid, Menlove, Evans, Jackson, and Oliver (engineer). The following tenders were accepted : Contract 61, arched culvert on road from Weston to White Rocks, H. Wallace, L 284 7s ; contract CO, formation in block VIII., Awamoko, H. Wallace, L 124 os (accepted conditionally). The Disti-ict Ranger (Mr. Dunn) waited on the Board to explain his action in reference to the driving fees charged in connection with impounding the poundkeeper's cattle. —The Board authorised the ranger to put into operation the powers conferred in him by the various Acts for keeping the roads in the district clear of all horses and cattle. It was also decided to obtain the solicitor's opinion as to the steps necessary to be taken in dealing with stray cattle seized within three miles of the pound, and as to the necessity for the poundkeeper's residence being convenient to the pound. The Board then rose.
