The Evening Mail WITH WHICH IS INCORPORATED THE NEW ZEALAND AGRICULTURIST. TUESDAY, DECEMBER 3, 1878.
At the Resident Magistrate's Court today, before T. W. Parker, Esq., R.M., and S. E. Shrimski, Esq., J.P., Catherine Reagan was charged on remand with neglecting to maintain her children. Their "Worships dismissed the case. One drunkard was cautioned and discharged. A sitting of the Licensing Court for the Oamaru town, and Papakaio, Kakanui, and Otepopo districts was held to-day before T. W. Parker, Rsq., R.M., John Reid, Esq., J.P., and John Borton, Esq., J.P. Mr. Hugo Lippert, grocer, Thames-street, applied for a bottle license, but it was not granted. Mr. C. H. Dodge, of the Empire Hotel, Thames-street, applied for and obtained a license for asecond bar. Robert Davis, storekeeper, Awamoko, made an application for a bottle license, which was granted. John Peattie, storekeepor, of Peebles, Awamoko, also applied for and obtained a bottle license. The usual monthly meeting of the Kakanui Road Board will be held at the offices, Tyne-street, to-morrow, at 11 a.m. We remind applicants for the office of valuator to the Kakanui Road Board that the time for lodging applications closes tomorrow, at 10 a.m. We have been requested to publish the following acknowledgment :—" Mrs. Captain Evans and Mrs. GifFord.—Mesdames : I received your parcel, with many thanks.— Yours respectfully, Mrs. Young." A meeting of the Oamaru Schools Committee will be held to-morrow evening. The Oamaru Philharmonic Society will hold its weekly practice to-morrow, Wednesday evening, in the Waitaki Hall, at the usual hour. Soloists are requested to attend at half-past 7 o'clock. >
