Wellington, September 3. Tn the House of Representatives yesterday, some discussion took place on the Imprest Supply Bill, No. 3, for L 250.000, but the Bill passed through all its stages. The Disqualification Bill was advanced a st;>ge. At the evening sitting, the debate on the Laud Tax Bill was resumed by 7\h: Wakefield, who moved tin; followiog amendment : That while this blouse is of opinion that when the iieeensities of t : 'o Colony require further revenue, direct taxation should be reported to, it is of opinion that such taxation should nor be adopted while subsidies in aid are paid from consolidated funds. Mr. M'Lean said if the Government would withdraw their three taxing Bills ihe Opposition would help them to pass the Electoral Bill and the Estimates, and they could then have another year to prepare a policy which would only offend a Fti\v classes, instead of the whole population as at present. 3l"ssrs. Hodgkinson and M\F arlane and Dr. Wallis also spoke, all agreeing with the principle contained in the Government proposals, but taking very strong objection to many details, and expressing a hope that the Government would see their way to abandon the objeetioual features of the measure when in Committee. The. debate was adjourned, and the House rose at 11.4-5 p.m.
