HARBOR BOARD.

The usual fortnightly meeting of the Board was hold to-day at the Harbor Chambers. There were present—Messrs. Sninpter (Chairman), Steward, Borrie, fvL-ek, Gilchrist, and Menlove. The minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed, and the outward correspondence was read and approved. The Engineer submitted an estimate showing the cost of the proposed future extension of harbor works, amounting to LBo,ooo. He slated that the works included in this es'imate would complete the original design for the-.Breakwater and wharves, and added that it is now evident that in order to keep pace with the rapidly increasing trade of the port that these works should be carried out as soon as possible, and a larger class of shipping introduced that would be equal to the carrying trada of Gamaru. Jtlossrs. J", and T. Meek forwarded a claim for L 32 15s. 10d., the value of 50 sacks of wheat and sacks damaged through one of the boats capsizing. The boat master reported that the boat had been left loaded on the evening of Are 26th inst. to be forwarded to the vessel in the morning. She parted her moorings during the night, swung round on to the reclaimed land, and capsized. It was decided to pay the amount, and sell the wheat. It was also resolved that instructions should be issued that in no case must pargo be left in the boats during the niu'ht, and that in all cases when masters are willing to take in cargo that it be (1 -'ivered when s ut down to the wharf by tii.
