MU NICIPAL COUNCIL.

The usual fortnightly meeting of the Council was held at the Municipal Chambers last evening. There were present His Worship the "Mayer, Councillors Humphrey, Mainland, Procter, Gibbs, Familton, Headland, Spence. The minutes cf the last general and several special meetings were read and confirmed, and the outward correspondence was read and approved. Mr. David Miller applied for permission to plnc« a box drain opposite section 2, block XLlV.—Permission was given provided stone pipes were used. Permission was given for the transfer of the following leases • —Section 1, block iXXXVL'/from Mr. Qeo. Moore - tq Mr. John Calderwood : section 21, block XV , from Mr. Jas. Carson to' Mr. W. J. Smith ; of Mr. E. Warburton's interest in Reserve E. to Mr. W, Swanson ; section 14, block LIV., from Mr. Thos. Kerr to Mr. G. Manley. Mr. Edwin Collis obtained permission to make additions in iron to his building in Thames-street. Mr. Norman Lane's application for permission to place a rail between two of the posts in his verandah was referred to the Public Works Committee with power to act. Mr Robert Keenan obtained a renewal for one year of the portion of the Esplanade at present' occupied by him.

Mr. Robert Evans applied for find obtained a nightman's license. Messrs. Eddington, Bust, and Co.'s applications for permission to erect wooden additions to a butcher's shop near the corner of Thames and Ribble-streets and to put in a horse-post, were granted. The Solicitors were instructed to reenter upon and take possession of section 12, block LXXVIL, in consequence of the rent not having been paid. A letter from Mr. Lowe, Resident Engineer, with reference to the diversion of Isis-street was, after some discussion, referred to the Works Committee with power to act. The following tenders for additions and alterations to the retort house at the Gas Works were received :J. M'Combe, L 388; J. Hamilton, L 380; Jas. Roxburgh and Co., L 379 B*.; W. Hossack (masons work «nly), Ll6B. Messrs. Roxburgh and Co.'s tender was accepted. For earthworks in Aln-street South, the following tenders were received : David Heron, LSO; Samuel Rusbatch, L 37 10s. Mr. Rusbatch'a tendor was accepted. Report from the Finance. Public Works, and Gas Committees were read, the latter Committee stating that, they had accepted the tender of Mr. Henry Aitken for the supply of 200 tons Greymouth coal, at 41s. 9d. per ton, delivered at Gasworks. The reports were received and adopted. Accounts amounting to L 304 15s. 4d. on ordinary account and L 159 17s. 4d. on Waterworks were passed. One or two other matters having been under discussion and notice of motion given, the Con noil rose.
