rifle match was fired today selected from the and the Oamaru team arrived in town last evening by the 5.15 train, and w'ere escorted to their quarters, the Criterion Hotel, by the Oamaru men. The .'match was commenced about eleven o'clock this morning and had not been completed at lialf-past four o'clock. The tit'ino was exceedingly slow, owing to the strong wind which was blowing and the difficulty-the marksmen had to see the target in consequence of the clouds of dust wafted across by the wind. The weather was altogether worse than it lia« ever before been known to be at the range. Notwithstanding this fact the shooting was very fair, particularly at 200 yards, where the Christchurch men made an average of fourteen over centres, and the Oamaru team nine below the same averagp. The local team thus started at the second range with twenty-three points under their opponents' total, but entirely changed the aspect of affairs, and were ahead when our reporter left the ground.
