MR. BUTTON AT HOKITIKA.
[per press agency.] 1 Hokitiica, May 17. Mr. Button addressed the electors last night. He expressed his views strongly against the Grey Government, and announced that he would oppose Sir Geo. Grey in all Ministerial questions, and, as he believed that his constituency was favorable to the Grey Ministry, he had no desire to represent a minority. It was moved, " That the thanks of the meeting be accorded for past services, and that this meeting has every confidence in Mr. Button's future conduct." To this an amendment was moved as follows : " That, after Mr. Button's political views, as expressed to-night, and whilst having the highest respect for Mr. Button's able and conscientious services in the past, this meeting is of opinion that the sympathies of this constituency would be represented more in accordance with public opinion here, were it represented by a supporter of Sir George Grey." The ! amendment being put, it was declared carried by a large majority. Iv is certain after the result of the meeting that Mr. Button will resign. (
