FIRE AT KAKANUI.

A cottage at Kakanui in the occupation of Mr. Henry Stock, late of the Devonshire Hotel, Kakanui, was burnt to the ground tin's morning at about half-past- 4 or -ii o'clock. The house and its contents, including a quantity of clothing of the family, who were absent when the fire occurred, were completely destroyed. We hear that the property belonged to Mr. Stock. Wo have not yet ascertained whether or not there was any insurance on any of the property'- destroyed. The conflagration was greatly aided by- the high wind that was blowing at the time, and it was not long after its commencement- before there was a heap of embers to mark the place where the house once stood.
