MUNICIPAL COUNCIL.

A special meeting of the Municipal Council was held this afternoon for the purpose of considering what steps should he taken with regard to the visit of the Premier. There were present—His Worship the Mayor, Councillors Gibbs, Familfcon, Spence, and Liddle. The following telegrams were read :

[COPT OF TF-LF-ORAM.] Oamaru. March S, IS7S. Sir George Grey, K.C.8., Balchitha— Shall we have the pleasure of seeing yourself and Ministers in Oamaru? If so please advise when to expect. It not, should be glad to know how long you remain in Dnnedin, as I desire an interview on Municipal matters.

Dunedin, March 0, IS7S. To W. J. Steward, Esq., Mayor, Oamaru. Sir—lt has just been arranged that Mr. Fisher and myself will leave Dunedin on Wednesday morning for Oamaru, remaining there until Thursday morning. I can then arrange all matters with you.—l am, &c., G. Obey.

The Mayor was instructed to send the following reply to Sir George Grey :

Oamaru, March 9, IS7B. To Sir George Grey, K.C.8., Dunedin. I have had the honour to lay the advice of your and the Hon. Mr. Fisher's visit before the Municipal Council, and have to express their satisfaction as well as my own thereat. I am also desired to express the hope that the Hon. Mr, Macandrew will accompany the Ministerial party. Also, respectfully to urge that if possible such ar-

raDgements will be made as will permit of your remaining in Oamaru over Thursday or at least for the greater part of the day. I may add that by the courtesy of the Hon. Mr. Holmes Omarama House will be placed at the Ministers' disposal during their stay. I shall do myself the honour to meet you at the 6.15 p.m. train on Wednesday. Should you arrange to arrive at any other time by "special" or otherwise; please advise me by wire.—l am, &c., War. 6. Stewakd, Mayor.
