AGRICULTURAL STATISTICS.
The agricultural statistics for the County of Waikouaiti have now been commenced, and through the courtesy of .Sub-Inspector Smith we are enabled to place the results of the official inquiries before our readers as follows :
No. of holdings—Freehold, 252 ; rented, 100; both, 40 : total, 392. Extent of land broken up, but not under crop, 2596 acres. Wheat —Sown for grain only, 6179 acres ; estimated gross produce, 195,331. Oats—Fur green food or hay, 332 acres : for grain, 6420 ; estimated gross produce of grain, 200,693 bushels. Barley—Sown for grain only, 133 acres ; estimated gross produce, 3609 bushels. Sown grasses—Hay, 325 acres ; estimated gross produce, 279 tons ; grasses after Saving been broken up (including such as are in hay), 20,355 acres ; grass-sown lands not previously ploughed (including such as are in hay), Hi,597 acres. Potatoes—34o acres ; estimated gross produce, '9OS tons. Other Crops, S3l acres ; total under crop (including sown grass), 51,522 acres. Quantitv of last year's crop remaining on hand —Wheat, 24SS bushels ; oats, -'oSb' bushels ; barley, nil.
