(FROM THE PRESS AGENCY.) WELLINGTON. November 6. The Mayor has to-day remitted to the Lord Mayor of London LI4OO by telegram for the Indian Famine Relief Fund. The insurances on the Avalanche are stated to be New Zealand, L 7344 ; South British, L 7592 ; National, L3OOO ; Standard, L7OO. The Agent-General informs the Government of the sailing of the Hurunui from

Plymouth on the 16th September, for Taranaki and Wellington. She will call first at Taranaki.

BLENHEIM. November 6. The town was clear of flood yesterday ; a piece at the north end of the bridge was acting as a breakwater, throwing the current on south bank, which was in danger. The Council met and decided to send the Mayor to Wellington with regard to the matter, and to put a temporary bridge at once. It is feared it is too late as if the south bank gives way first, great damage will ensue.
