SPECIAL TELEGRAMS.

(from our own correspondents.)

DUNEDIN. November 7. A frightful accident occurred yesterday morning by the Bwamping of a boat at Pomahauka. Two persons were drowned. An inquest on the fire at North Taieri was held yesterday. The jury returned an open verdict, but added a rider to the effect that the circumstances attached grave suspicion against Mr. Lloyd, farm manager, and the police should take proceedings. It appears there had been some words between a laborer named Flynn, who occupied the house, and Lloyd, the former having been discharged by him. Flinn and his son swore positively that they saw Lloyd near the house just before the fire was discovered, but Lloyd denies their statement. The house belongs to Mrs. Stevenson, and is not insured. Lloyd was judge at the recent coursing matches. The Coroner dissented from the rider, Baying it was not justified by the evidence.
