CIiIIISTOIiURCLI. November 2. At a meeting of the Board of Education, a letter was mid from the Rev. Father Bmsfeacl, giving the names <>f six Catholic children who said they had been caned by the master of Loburn School for not doing Bible lessons. In some cases this was said to have been done after the parents had given notice that theirohiluren were not to take part in the lessons. The Board has ordered a full inquiry into the matter.

Promlfoot.'s case is still on, but will probably be concluded to-night shonld tie jury agree. Mr. Smith, in speaking fur the defence, cha.rg d the Crown prosecutors with over-eagerness to obtain a conviction. This was indignantly denied by Mr. Denniston, who disclaimed any other feeling in the matter than that which arose from a desire to promote the ends of justice. In his speech, which was a very able one, he again commented in severe language on the action of Dv. Murphy, whose conduct lie char cteiisM as shameful and disgraceful, and said that, his oilering the father of the prosecutrix a bribe was only on a par with the dirty work which Murphy had been hired to do.
The total amount received here at the present date fur the Indian Famine Relief Fund is L 1795. The Opera Company have arrived.
