Mr. Maeassey replied this aft; riniiin, speaking three hours and a half. The Chief Justice will commence his summing up to-morrow. "Wreckage is reported on the coast between If.iwea and Opunake. The mutilated body of a Euro].can was reported to have been seen on the Harriet B.s-ioh by tiie nat,iv» s. Search has been made, but it had disappeared. It is suppos d to have been washed out to sea or covered with sand. It is supposed to be the body of a man who fell overboard from tin- cutter Fiery Cross, when oil the Sugar Loaves on the 7th August. September 6. The Chief Justice has been engaged all the morning, and is still summing up in the Waka- X'tuiri libel case. He is not expected to conclude his remarks before five or six o'clock this evening. TIMAIIU. September 5. Terrific seas have been rolling in all day. The Maori is not yet tendered. She is "to take soundings about the coast at Milford re the practicability of obtaining an entrance to Milford lagoon. At the Resident Magistrate's Court today two young men were charged with stealing a turkey. They were sentenced the three months' imprisonment with hard labour. It is thought to be a very hard sentence. James Brinslead and Charles Herbert, charged with perjury arising from a civil ease°in the District Court (Blythe v. Wadsworth), were dismissed.
