(FROM OI'R OWN OOIUtISSPONDKNTS.) DU^EDJN. September G. 310 applications have been received here for the land thrown open in the Cliatton and Otama Hundreds. At the Police Court this morirng, George Proudfoot was charged with rape on liis servant girl. At the outset of the case the police asserted that endeavours had been made to " square" the atlair. The case is still proceeding. Later. The case against George Proudfoot, after the hearing of the girl's evidence and that of her parents, was remanded till to-morrow. Bail was allowed—accused in LIOOO, and two sureties in LOOO each. The charge against Robert Rossbotham for forging a bill of exchange for LGOO odd is now proceeding.
