TENDERS FOR THE GRAND STAND.
w A meeting of the Turf Club was held at the Empire Hotel last evening, for the purpose of receiving tenders for the erection of a portion of the Grand Stand and saddling paddock at the Race-course. There were only three tenders, the following being the names and amounts : Bain ... ... £321 Sidon ... ... 328 Holland 340 It will be seen that there was really very little difference between the amounts of the tender, the highest and lowest only varying by £l9. That of Mr. Bain was accepted. It was decided to erect the Stand on the highest part of the course, and not on the portion originally agreed upon. This will give the finish a slight rise for about ten yards, reminding old sportsmen acquaint el with the principal courses in the Old Country of the course at Ascot. The work was commenced this morning, and it is the intention of the contractor to push it on and have it finished at as early a date as possible.
