OPENING OF THE CONVENTION.
The Convention opened at noon. Mr. Macandrew strongly urged the forming of an independent colony of Otago. The only panacea for the great wrong being inflicted on Otago was the proclaiming of an independent colony, with supreme legislature and absolute control over its own affairs. If gone about in a proper way, the Imperial Government must grant this. Mr. Thomson, M.H.R., for Clutha* was elected Chairman.
