(From "N.Z. Truth's" Auckland Rep.) Valuation's two defeats at Te Aroha have caused him to fall m public estimation. THIS is the Valkyrian gelding which 1 opened his winning account at Thames early m January, and from which great things were expected. His win that day, when looking slightly robust, was certainly" achieved m attractive style, and there was sound reasoning for the support accorded him at Te Aroha. However, having failed, it is necessary to delve into the causes and such are not easy to discover. He had horsemen m the saddle capable of riding winners if on the goods. "N.Z. Truth" says Valuation was more forward m appearance at Te Aroha than at Thames, and defeats did not come about owing to want of energy displayed. • All this goes to make one wonder whether the stock from whence he came has anything to do with Valuation's incomparable displays. On this aspect, anyone who dwells on the Valkyrians must come to the conclusion that some of the stock of the imported horse have givon ' r "r>a.t promise by their early turf deeds. Yet- under continual consistent training and racing some have failed to prove on the up-grade. Take the cases of Valroe- and Leitrim m the spring. That pair did' not curry on with the big things which early victories indicated. It may be that Valuation is one of the Valkyrians which does better on a light preparation. Anyhow, time should tell the tale.
