Wycherley's Wit
HUMOR may be the spice of life, but it is a most expensive ingredient
when bought through the magazines, movies, and mummers. ,
Praise for the man who deals it out to the world gratis — the man you meet m the street whose witticisms make wine of words. Meaning, fellows like George A. Wycherley, of Dunedin, for example, who hand round the champagne of conversation to displace the goblet of gloom.
Mark you, he is not a comedian. His is not the. bombastic, slap-dash, "heie-we-a.re-a.guin" sort of humor, but rather of the quiet, inwardly-chuck-ling drollery which bides its time for the last and longest laugh.
The way he can sqttle an everyday discussion by drawing his repartee rapier, is an art.
