Hawera Starts Off West Coast Circuit GATHERING VERY POPULAR

Hawera starts off the West Coast circuit to-day. The meeting- concludes on . Saturday, and then come New Plymouth and Wanganui. *'■■'•

THE clubs mentioned are very popular and they always receive a large measure of support. ' So it is with Hawera to-day. The fields are of good size and the racing will be up to standard. There are two cups on the programme—the Egmont Cup for. the class horses and the Nolan Cup, somewhat of a second Douro Cup, for the hacks. Iri the major event nine have stood their ground, with Rapine top weight. The old fellow bnly ran fair races at Trentham, but they would have the effect of cleaning him out. " • However, Vertigern, with three pounds less, is better liked. The Wellington Cup ; winner was beaten the second day at Trentham, but he was more than a bit unlucky from the false rail home. What beats him should win. Hynanna is coming along with racing, and .will soon be winning again. . There is an inclination to. take it that Bright Glow will ; not", stay, and this is perhaps unwise. 1

After Yoma's success at Trentham, he cannot be ignored. A little give m the track would suit him immensely. Talisker. is a. good second string r for Vertigern, and the bracket, with loma, should have most supporters. • After his clear-cut victory m _ the Douro Cup, there will be a rush to be on Gold Cure m the Nolan Cup. He was certainly beaten m open company, the last day at Trentham, but m the early stages he pulled hard and that would not-help him. ■.--.*.•■■'. Gold-Dawn is -sure to be m the picture part of the trip, but the finish may find, her missing. . Roi de Val has started to win, and he may continue on now. ■.-•■ 'His rehandicap will allow for Bert Morris to ride him. Acred and Llanore are possibilities, the latter especially, if she has picked up after her two hard Trentham races. The public are not likely to forget form, ■ -, and m. pinning their faith to Gold. Cure and Hoi de Val they may be the right way.
