HARD TO RIDE
Runs About At The Finish Historic has had a fair, share of racing, but he has yet to -learn to come home straight. UE is not. altogether a' handsome sort, ** being a typical Nassau, but handsome is as handsome does. ■ . This season he has graduated from hack ranks to the fore-front of open company. But he is still green, if greenness it can be called. To him racing must be one big joke. At Riccarton m November he got his head m front and then stopped, with the. result he was beaten a nose. He won the big race the last day at Awapuni at Christmas, but twice Bert Morris had to check him from boring m. ' At Trentham having to stop riding to straighten the chestnut up meant the difference between winning and losing. It was exasperating to his owner and trainer, not to mention the many thousands who had picked him out asa good thing. Historic is good, ; of that there. is no doubt, but when he learns that racing is a serious business he will be better. To date it is his traifter and rider that are serious, and over the last two furlongs he must have Bert Morris thinking ten ways at .otice.-.;
