(From "N.Z. Truth's" Auckland Rep.) Though Polyxena was one of the greatest form tips ever presented, her punters can consider themselves a shade lucky. DOLYXENA had gone within inches of snatching a stake from Gay Ballerina at Ellerslie. As the filly had gone on ito victory twice since it certainly looked an absolute moral that Jamieson's youngster would account for the opposition m the Calliope Handicap at Takapuna. The fact that Jamieson's charge had the services of Goldfinch and also drew nearer the rails (No. 4) than anything with' serious public form to be considered made mat- ! ters look even brighter. All this happened without the know- ■ ledge that there was an unknown quantity which possessed speed of note. That unknown quantity to the northern vracing public was a filly by Paper Money— Letthfield named Royal Finance, which hailed from Ernie i George's stable m Taranaki. Had she moved as smartly as the favorite, over the early part it seems safe to conclude that the judge would have had to decide m favor of the Taranaki filly. There was only a neck between the pair- at the close and with a less heady horseman than Goldfinch on . the favorite, punters .generally would have been bewailing. .; It'rwas a near thing between victory and 'defeat, and clearly instanced that Owner Bill Emeny and Trainer Ernie George have got hold of a very promising stake-earner m Royal .Finance.
