Life-Saving Cl,ub intends leaving no stone unturned m its efforts to retain the Nelson Shield and the national . surf title. AT Titahi Bay, during the week-end, • Lyall Bay repeated ' their form of 1927. when they won both the Otaki Cup ; and the Shield. Maranui won both events last yeaiv Four teahis competed m the cup, the land drill, event and there were five m the Shield. The entrants were Island Bay, ■Lyall Bay A and B and Maranui A and' B. Maranui B .did not compete for the cup. The land drill programme was car-' riecL'dut m the. morning, Lyall Bay A winning from Island Bay. Maranui shaped very well,- . but lost . points , through missing out two rescue methods. The winning team gave a very fine display, the work being nearly perfect. *• Island" Bay drilled individually rather' than as a team. They certainly were spectacular, but little breaches -were noted by. the judges. • . The finish was close m the •'. shield event, but Lyall Bay A gave a clean display and were brisk m moyement. :■ There was a large crowd present and the. surf-, -was '.tiiiy enough to make the competition quite keen.
