Young Olds Shows U.S.A. Some Speed (From "N.Z. Truth's" Dunedin Rep.) Every season, m some part of • the world — more often America — one or another • branch of sport brings to light a few "marvels of the age." TN this respect New Zealand has lately had its share of notoriety through the reports on the amazing doings m America of young swimming marvel Leslie "Buster" Olds, 1 son of E. H. Olds, late well-known sportsman of Dunedin and present coach for the San Diego Athletic Club, California. As a member of .that club, young "Buster," it seems has been smashing aquatic records with the sang-froid of a bull m a gramophone shop. In July, September and November last, the lad put up some extraordinary times for various distances, which are claimed as records for a boy under 14 years of age. But was "Buster" then under 14? From a very reliable source "Truth" is told that .Leslie Olds was fifteen srears5 r ears of . age, last October and documentary proof could be produced for anyone wanting confirmation. , Much as we all enjoy the successes of our younger generation, there can be nothing but a feeling of abhorrence for any tactics savoring of the "ringin" and. if anyone is guilty of doctoring "Buster's" age, they have forfeited all claim to the title of "sportsman." It is not fair to the lad himself, nor is it a- credit to the . country to which he belongs.
