HE BURNS IT UP
Hoylake Steps On It At Home (From "N.Z. Truth's" Christchurch Rep.) Hoylake disappointed a large army of supporters at Ellerslie, but the track conditions were against him, for he declines to hit out when it is at all wet. EVEN m his track work the grey has displayed a marked disinclination to make full use of his easy action and enormous stride when the conditions have been unfavorable. That he has retained his brilliant form which won him the Metropolitan Handicap at the Cup meeting is borne out by a phenomenal gallop he established at Riccarton last Saturday morning, Avhen, with a light boy up, he ran a mile on the. grass m 1.40 1/5. The merit of the performance can be judged from the fact that it was one of the best miles done on the grass at Riccarton for some years. As the grey performs better -when ridden by a strong boy, he must be given a chance m the Wellington Cup should he strike conditions which suit him. He will be ridden at Trentham by Bert Ellis.
